Japan will be trying their best at the World Cup in Brazil this month, but, let's face it, with the current strength of their team, they'll be happy just to get out of their group. It's a far cry from the legendary Japanese team of the 80s, that could have, and should have, won the World Cup, but didn't on a technicality.
With their curiously Western-sounding names and incredible feats of acrobatics on the pitch, that team inspired an entire generation of footballers, who, however, never managed to make it to their lofty heights. For those of us who remember following their progress on Italia Uno every evening around 6pm during that turbulent decade, this clip should bring back some welcome memories. They sure don't make players like that any more...
