MODEL CITIZEN: CLAIRE ATTARD VELLA
The tall brunette from St Julian’s but currently a resident of Birkirkara, takes SWAG through her modelling achievements while sharing some examples of her other passion: painting.
My day job consists of being an assistant to a bank manager, but I've been modelling since age 16. I've done fashion shows, calendars, advertisements and photoshoots.
It all started when a modelling scout spotted me out in Paceville and invited me to take part in a modelling event in Sicily.
Among my modelling achievements are being the August girl in a popular Brassmonkey club Vodka Cruiser calendar, and modelling for Charles & Ron...
I consider the famous Italian actress and soon-to-be Bond girl Monica Bellucci as my main inspiration in modelling; while I always look forward to working with photographer Mark Mallia.
My other love is art and one of the things I am proudest of is a mural I painted for the town of Fara San Martino near Rome in Italy recently.
I've been drawing and painting since childhood and it has become my greatest passion. I challenge myself to try all sorts of art, but my favourite is abstract which means no boundaries and vibrant colours for me.
I've had exhibitions at Melita Gardens, at Le Meridien Hotel with another artist, Mark Mallia, and at Dr Adrian’s Garden Centre in Rabat. I was also the 'house artist' during a live TV programme called Sessi presented by Natasha Turner a few years ago.
Salvador Dali is my favourite artist though my style is very different to his.
With regards to men, there must be a connection and attraction with a man before I find him attractive. He must be capable of holding an intelligent conversation and not be arrogant. He must not necessarily share my interests but at least show an interest in them. Let's say we’re in a musuem together... it's never going to work if he sits down looking glum while I view the art.
As for the ideal date: there's nothing better than a summer evening on a beach with a chilled glass of wine, hearing the waves and looking at the moon...
We would like to thank the photographers Therese Debono, Aron Mifsud Bonnici, Gege Gatt, Ellie Cutajar, Claude Mallia, Alexander Degabriele, Kevin Casha, Noella Agius, Mark Mallia, Leslie Digital Artist and David Calleja Urry. Check out some examples of Claire's modelling work as well as some of her art below.
