WAS THE BEST GOAL OF 2014 SCORED BY A WOMAN?
Let it never be said that SWAG doesn't give women their due. Monday night will see FIFA choose the top football personalities and happenings of last year in the annual Ballon d’Or gala, and this goal by Irish international Stephanie Roche is among the 10 contenders for the Puskas Award, which also include World Cup goals from Robin van Persie and James Rodriguez. And it's also one of our favourites here at SWAG.
The Puskas Award is named after the great Hungarian player Ferenc Puskas. Roche's goal was scored on 13 October during a Peamount United vs Wexford Youths game in the Irish league. Roche, 25, is the first woman to feature on a Puskas Award final shortlist, and the first player from Ireland. Check out her wonder goal, and the nine others scored last year, below.
