MODEL CITIZEN: MARTINE VELLA
SWAG had the pleasure of getting to know 23-year old beauty and kindergarten teacher, Martine Vella. A passion for modelling was already brewing when Martine was very young, and little did she know what was in store for her. Having won her first beauty pageant in 2012, Martine is quickly building her career in the modelling world.
From a young age I used to enjoy watching Fashiontv and always dreamt of becoming a model. I used to go to my bedroom, pick out outfits and try them on. I started modelling at the age of 14 and haven’t stopped since then. I started my education at San Anton school, followed by St Dorothy’s. After completing secondary school I studied Art A-level and Physical Education. Then, I began my Childcare course at MCAST. I studied and graduated, and I now work as a kindergarten teacher.
I think there are many talented people, though I don’t imitate any of them. I believe that everyone is unique in their own way. Not to forget to mention, my favourite model is Belen Rodriguez. I wish I knew her personally but I can say that she is a beautiful, strong woman and is great at what she does. Her hectic life reminds me of mine. Both our lives consist of juggling so many things at once! Though I have to say my inspiration is my mum!
A big achievement is when I won Face of Malta, my first beauty pageant in 2012. Also, when I represented the Face of Evagarden, Spring campaign in 2014. Along the way, I’ve also worked with many international directors, stylists and photographers – that has been an honor! I personally think I am most known for portraiture shooting.
I recently filmed a music video and had a photo shoot with an international company, which are still being processed.
When it comes to fears, my greatest fear is falling on the catwalk. Though, my most embarrassing moment was during a fashion show. I wore a very heavy ball gown and as I walked on the catwalk, I realised that the dress started to fall down bit by bit. Luckily, I stopped for a photo and I caught hold of it!
When it comes to future projects, I have an international photo shoot coming up which I’m very excited about. I’d like to pursue my dream in modelling abroad in the near future. Also, I sometimes think of opening my own modelling business.
My ideal man is charming, funny, athletic, ambitious and most of all shows respect and honesty. My ideal man should also be himself!
I’m not really big on dates, and I’m not picky. Anything really as long as it’s with good company!
