MODEL CITIZEN: BRENDA GRECH
Meet Brenda, who won the Mrs Malta 2015 title earlier this year during a gala event organised by Gaffiero Productions. Find out all about her life and ambitions and how she’s related to one of the island’s biggest stars…
Tell us a bit about yourself, your career and how you ended up where you are today.
Well, I’m a bubbly but also a hard headed person sometimes. I was born in November 1972 in Toronto, Canada. I took part in a modelling competition for the first time when I was 13 years old, but after that I concentrated on schoolwork.
I returned to modelling aged 25. From then onwards it continued growing… I must admit that it succeeded more after I got married than when I tried it in my teens.
I’ve won several titles in the ‘Mrs’ category, 10 in all. I’ve been to represent my country in the UK were I placed third in the Mrs Commenwealth competition. I also took part in several fashion shows and also done some acting.
Taking part in these kind of events makes me feel good and helps me keep up with the fashion industry, but my family is always my first priority.
What is your current project and the latest news from your career?
Lately I won a prestigious title Mrs Malta 2015, during an event organised by Gaffiero Productions. It was an amazing experience. During this journey we had workshops, interviews, photoshoots and talks and I also met many new friends. We are still close even though the show is over.
Now I have a year full of activities. I’ve been invited on TV several programms and to many charity events. I’ve also taken part in a charity walk from Mellieha to Isla … it was tiring but worth the pain.
Who is your ideal man, and what must he do to woo you?
I met my ideal man when I was 16 years old. Today he’s my husband and soon we’ll celebrate our 17th wedding anniversary. I adore him and love him to bits: he is respectful, funny and supportive. Together we have an adorable 13 year old daughter called Amy, who fills our life.
Tell us about your future projects.
My ambition in life is be there for my daughter and help her in her achievements. She would like to open a clothes shop when she grows up and I will help her do this if it’s what she wants.
Any last messages or advice to prospective young models?
My message is that being a mum and a wife is all about learning about strengths you didn’t know you had, and dealing with fears you didn’t face before. Treasure every second in life.
Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always try to do that, but the really great people make you feel that you too can become great. Great minds have purposes, others have wishes.
I would like to thank my friends and family, especially my mum as she’s my biggest fan. Thanks also goes to my niece, Ira Losco… her continues support means a lot.
