IS IT TIME TO QUIT YOUR JOB?
The sad truth is that we all need to work. If we didn’t, we’d be broke and destitute, or worse, still living with our parents (ahem). But it doesn't mean we should be stuck in a job we dislike. There are various viable reasons why you should find another job, including boredom, stagnation, unfair treatment or unhealthy amounts of stress.
If you’re lucky enough to enjoy what you do – keep it moving. However, if you’re on the other side of the fence and would prefer to stick your arm into a meat grinder than go to your workplace everyday, keep reading. SWAG’s got a list of things that indicate whether it’s time for you to move on.
Your boss is a moron
Sometimes it just boils down to your boss being an imbecile. If a captain of a vessel doesn’t know what he’s doing, it might be best to jump-ship.
Your ideas or suggestions are ignored
Feeling like you’re overlooked or not taken seriously isn’t fun. Working isn’t just about earning money, but about growing as an individual and learning. If you’re not developing – why stay?
You’re bored
Reiterating that working is about learning; if you’re not mentally stimulated and feel like you’re losing brain cells sitting at your desk, just know that there’s way more to life than what you’re experiencing.
Your company isn’t doing well
If you know the company that’s employing you has been going through a tough time for a while, and the paycheques are coming in later and later, it might be best to look out for yourself and go somewhere else.
Your skills are wasted
Does what you’re doing seem pointless? Are you capable of much more? Find a place that will use your skills to its advantage.
Your work stress is affecting your life/health
If constant looming deadlines, a ridiculous workload or unjustified long hours are becoming too much for you, give yourself a break and slow it down.
You hate getting up in the morning
We doubt anyone likes waking up at the crack of dawn to face a day of work, but there’s a difference between not being a morning person and dreading the day ahead of you. If your job makes you depressed, it’s not worth it.
You’re being given more work without remuneration
Is your workload increasing yet your bank account is remaining the same? Your cheeky boss isn’t going to throw money at you, unless he’s a great guy, so if you feel you rightfully deserve a salary boost – say something!
You’re being verbally berated
It’s awful having a d***head for a boss or manager. Being spoken down to is never justified. If the people around you can’t communicate in a sensible, adult way, there’s no use in staying.
