WINTER MOODS' 30 YEAR JOURNEY MARKED WITH NEW ALBUM

Winter Moods launched their sixth CD album during a press conference at Hard Rock Bar, at the Valletta Waterfront on Wednesday 4 March. The new album, titled The Journey, will be on sale from local record shops and online on Friday (6 March). This year marks Winter Moods’ 30th year together as a band, a fact that is alluded to in the new album's title.

The Journey was recorded at Temple Studios in Mistra last year, and was produced and mixed by David Vella, who has been working with the band since their very first album. It was mastered at Metropolis Studios in London by industry professional John Davis, who recently worked on the Led Zeppelin reissues mastered with Jimmy Page, as well as new albums by Lana Del Rey and Prodigy. The design and art direction of The Journey was done by Ed Dingli.

In conjunction with the launch of the album, Winter Moods also released the third song from the album, an upbeat track titled Flowers And Cash. The video (below) was filmed by Railway Studios and directed by Matthew James Borg.

Speaking at the press conference, Winter Moods frontman Ivan Grech said, “The past 30 years have been a remarkable journey, we have seen the music scene evolve drastically over the years and we have survived with many stories to tell. The Journey brought us together and challenged us in different ways, and the end product is something that we are very proud of.

“We spent time away, living together and song-writing in different locations for The Journey. We 'let go' when it came to the sound and production of some songs, there’s a tinge of the 80s in others, as well as some darker atmospheric stuff, all in the midst of the classic Winter Moods sounds.”

The Journey has already spawned two singles: Days Of My Life, released in 2013 and Everlasting, in 2014.

“Every album is as thrilling an experience as the first time. Music is fuel to our lives and despite the ups and downs - of which we have had our fair share - it is what keeps us together as a band of brothers. We have much more coming up this year, and can’t wait to share the music with our audience. The people - their passion and support inspire us,” Ivan added.

According to the band's frontman, a big live concert is being planned for the band to play at in the near future.

The Journey is dedicated to Steve Caruana Smith (known as Is-Serp), one of the founders of Winter Moods who passed away in 2012.
