MY LIFE IN CARS - FLEUR BALZAN

Tags:   Babes,   Cars,   Motoring

By The Swag Team   -  June 15, 2014

SWAG gets the lowdown from the people who matter in Malta’s auto world. Here are the motoring experiences of Fleur Balzan, the presenter, producer and editor of the Wheelspin motoring TV programme and spinoff magazine.

What was your very first car?

My first car was a Vauxhall Nova. I used to pick up my friends and we’d go out and have some great times. I mostly remember all us girls singing out loud to the radio wherever we went. I wouldn’t dare sing aloud now...

What other cars have you owned in the past?

I’ve owned many: an Opel Astra, a Toyota Corolla, a Fiat Stilo, a Ford Focus and a BMW 1 series convertible.

What do you drive at the moment?

At the moment I drive a Citroen C3.

Have you ever regretted any of your car purchases?

None. I choose well!

Have you always been a car fan?

I believe so. I clearly remember standing at the steering wheel of my grandfather’s car when parked when I was still a baby! I loved it.

Do you have a dream car?

I have many dream cars, but luckily I get to drive them even without owning them!

If you could own a road car currently available for sale, what would it be?

That’s a difficult one! It depends on my mood I guess. I recently attended the launch of the Porsche Macan. Wouldn’t mind owning that!

If you could own any classic car, what would it be?

Any classic that is a convertible.

What’s the best car you’ve ever driven?

There are too many to mention.

What have been your best and worst moments when driving?

The best moments were when I’ve driven my new cars for the first time. The worst moments are when I’m stuck in traffic behind someone who clearly has no respect for fellow drivers.

How are you at car maintenance?

I’m very good. I take care of my cars like I take care of my face!

Who is your favourite racing driver and why?

Michael Schumacher... he’s a legend.

What is your favourite racing circuit?

Barcelona. It’s a great place to watch racing, unlike many others where you can barely see the cars going by at high speed.

What advice would you give to someone who is looking to buy a car?

I’d advise them to list exactly what they need the car for, and to never buy a car without first test driving it.

Do you have any favourite driving songs?

A few of my own... (Fleur is also a songwriter – Ed)

What’s on your car stereo at the moment?

Chick Corea. I’ll be at one of his concerts soon so I’m getting in the mood!

Is there a famous road in the world that you dream of driving along one day?

Any good road will do for me. If possible, I’d prefer it without traffic.

Who would be your dream passengers on a long journey?

My partner, Paul Giordimaina.

How would you like to see the motor industry develop?

I would like to see more people going for cleaner vehicles, even if not necessarily electric.
