UP and coming stage star GABBY SARGENT is only 20 but has already succeeded in making her mark on the Maltese theatre scene, particularly where musicals and opera are involved. The Pembroke resident shared some of her favourite performing snaps and anecdotes with SWAG.

I am currently studying for my LTCL diploma in vocal teaching, but I also work as a singing tutor, wedding singer and performing artist. I started taking lessons in classical singing at the age of 11, and at 14 I made my theatrical debut in Masquerade’s production ‘Simply Webber’.

The most memorable experiences I’ve had so far are singing a solo in the bienniel ‘Voices’ show and singing with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra.

I’m currently in rehearsal for the opera ‘Elisir D’Amore’ by Gaetano Donizetti which will be held at the Manoel Theatre next month.

My favourite soprano is Anna Netrebko. I think she is absolutely fabulous and her voice is amazing… and I love her mentality too: “I'm just a normal person. It's not like I come home and think about opera. My thoughts are about completely other things. Shoes! Dresses! Expensive ones: with a pretty silhouette, beautiful fabrics.”

Clumsiness is what I’m probably most known for among my friends. Once, we had this school talent show and at one point we had to run off the stage and go down to sing among the audience, then run back up. But as I was running down I tripped over a wire and fell off the stage. I was too embarrassed to go among the audience so I just waited for the others and joined them on stage again. I was still young, but it’s definitely my most embarrassing story to date....

My ambition is to get myself an occupation that I enjoy in the performing world, and to live a happy, long and fruitful life surrounded by the people that I love.

My ideal man is Ashton Kutcher. I like a guy who I can have long conversations with, without it getting boring or awkward. He must have a great sense of humour, who how to have a good time and get my sarcasm. Great cuddles are a must, and cheesiness is a big no-no.

Enjoy Gabby's angelic voice in this clip.
