DJ FOCUS: JOSEPH ARMANI

Tags:   Music,   DJs,   Career

By Mila Camilleri   -  December 16, 2014

We're betting Joseph Armani isn't a new name to most of you. Having started in the music business as a child, he's since made quite the name for himself as a DJ and producer. SWAG had a quick chat with him about being on the radio, and performing in front of a million people...

When did you get into music and DJing?

I was five years old with an afro hairstyle when I first started singing, then moved into DJing at the age of 14. I’ve been doing it ever since.

Who are your favourite artists?

I love all kinds of music and artists as long as they produce quality music.

Tell us about your shows and the clubs you perform at.

I’ve been playing in clubs all over the world for the past 15 years. I’ve seen all kinds of venues which impressed me over the years but I’ve also seen some crappy ones!

Do you have a job apart from music?

I’m into real estate but I try to make it work both ways.

Tell us about your radio shows.

I have done radio for 10 years but after last summer I decided to take a break. Maybe in a couple of years' time I will go back to radio as I used to love it, but since it’s time consuming, I couldn’t cope with all the other stuff I have to do.

How big is the market for your kind of music?

My genre is mainly mainstream, so the sky is the limit.

What has been the biggest event you have been involved in?

In 2001, 2002 and 2003 I played at Berlin’s Love Parade. With about 1,000,000 people dancing to my music in the street, you can’t get any bigger than that.

Have you met or worked with any top names?

I have! I’ve worked with David Guetta, who’s a great person, and also with the Swedish House Mafia. They’re big and they’ve got egos to match.

What have been your best and worst moments performing so far?

My best experience was when I warmed up for David Guetta in St Petersburg, Russia. It was amazing! And my worst was when I went to a gig and forgot my records at home after arriving 15 minutes late… imagine that.

Where will you perform next?

The next big event I’m involved in is NYE for Prive' Events at the Valletta Waterfront.
