Hannah is a 20-year-old student studying for a Bachelors in Health, Exercise & Physical Activity at St Mary’s University, Twickenham in the UK. She is also a Bikini Fitness Athlete who has taken her first steps on the international scene, though she hopes to come to Malta to participate in events here next year.


What is your earliest sporting memory?


I started gymnastics at a very young age; I believe I was around three. I continued with the sport until I was around 16, alongside many other sports such as hockey and tennis.


What inspired you to become an athlete?


Having started sports at a young age it was only natural for me to continue it throughout my teenage life. It helped that I also attended a very active boarding school, Woldingham School in Surrey.


When did you realise you would become a semi-professional?


At the beginning of 2014 I wanted to take up weightlifting and develop my physique to another level, through being inspired by many bikini athletes in the industry. With the help of my coaches, Gabriel Sey and Nyisha Jordan Sey, I was able to make my dream a reality.


How much training does your sport require for you to maintain the level you are at?


It requires a lot of time and dedication, not only for training but also because of my attention to food intake, which is key. In preparation for a competition I train around twice a day, with a combination of cardio and strength training.


What have you had to give up or minimise to be successful?


Nutrition is key, so going out to eat and socializing is out of the question. However, I do get to have a cheat meal once a week, which is great. The dedication, determination and discipline that it requires is truly mind blowing. I have grown as a person having started this sport.


What event do you enjoy participating in most?


The main event for bikini is the actual fitness competition itself. It is a great experience, and with every competition there is always room for improvement.


What do you feel are your proudest sporting achievements so far?


I am extremely proud that I have managed to take part in two fitness competitions this year, only having started prepping in July 2014. I now have more experience with competition prep, which will help me achieve a lot more next year. I would have to say my best result so far has been achieving second place in my very first competition. It took place on Saturday 13 September 2014 at the Shaw Theatre, London.


Any regrets so far?


Up until now, none at all. I am enjoying every part of my fitness journey and I am keen to see the success of 2015.


Who is your role model in life?


I have always looked up to my mother, Sara. She has worked hard her whole life to provide me with everything that I could have ever asked for. She has the most amazing determination and wonderful character that has taken her where she is today.


What is your most embarrasing or painful sporting memory?


To date, I don’t think I have one. But I’m sure with time I will have a story to tell one day soon.


What other interests do you have aside from your sport?


I have a love for food and travelling. Being only 20 I have been fortunate enough to have travelled a large part of the world, such as the United States and South Africa. I also love trying new cuisines and flavours, which inspires me to cook interesting dishes.


What are your favourite music and films?


My favourite artists at the moment is Drake. His albums have taken me through all my cardio workouts. I tend to watch more TV series rather than movies. The most recent one I watched is called ‘The Good Wife’. I must say it’s very exciting to watch and I am excited about the next season.


What is your current situation with your club?


I am part of Fearless Academy which is owned by a fitness couple, Gabriel Sey and Nyisha Jordan Sey. They have been my rock for the past few months. Gabriel takes care of my nutrition and training, whilst Nyisha helped me with stage presence. I could not have found a better team to be apart of.


What ambitions do you have?


My goal for 2015 is the place first in Bikini Fitness and get my pro card. I am going to take time and work on building my physique so that I can achieve my goal. “Determination is the key to success” – this is a quote that I live by.
