THE SNAPS THAT DEFINE ME: DENNIS CALLEJA
Dennis has an Honours Degree in Public Policy and a Masters Degree in Knowledge-Based Entrepreneurship. He works as a full-time projects manager with the University of Malta, but he’s also always had an artistic side that ended up being expressed through the medium of photography. He mainly focuses on fashion, event and wedding photography.
What is photography to you?
For me the primary aim of photography is personal satisfaction, rather than considering it as a main source of income or something like that. It is a big challenge to make a living simply out of photography.
Are there any photographers that have inspired you?
I love the work of Richard Warren and other renowned fashion photographers but I still try and focus on developing my own personal individual style.
What have been the highlights of your photgraphy career so far?
Well, some of my work has featured on the Fashion TV website and on the Vogue Italia website, which was nice. I am currently making big plans for the future so stay tuned and expect the unexpected.
What camera equipment did you start off with?
My first camera was a 1.2 MP Digital Mustek Camera. Nowadays I work with different Nikon Camera Bodies and Lenses. I think professional camera equipment helps a lot with the overall picture quality but above all it is the technique itself that makes the major difference.
What equipment do you never leave the house without?
My mobile phone! For general purpose shots a mobile phone camera is always handy.
What’s your ultimate photography-gadget (that you own or aspire to own)?
A camera drone. I would like to shoot photos without any physical limits.
With regards to equipment, what’s your advice to aspiring photographers?
Purchase equipment wisely. Don’t underestimate where your aspirations might take you.
