WHEN A GOTH GODFATHER FILMED A SONG VIDEO IN MALTA
When recent interviewee Woody Aki mentioned the band Dali's Car in his chat about essential albums, a memory flashed in the dark recesses of SWAG's small, twisted mind.
We remembered seeing, on Youtube, the video to the album's main single 'The Judgement is the Mirror', which had been partly filmed in Malta. So we decided to share it with you...
Whether you are a fan of the music or not, the video is a must-watch as it captures some iconic images of Malta in distant 1984 - green bus included.
Dali's Car was made up of the singer from the band Bauhaus, Pete Murphy, a fellow called Paul Lawford, and the bassist from the band Japan, the late Mick Karn. Both were highly respected musicians in their own fields, but the Dali's Car project floundered with minimal sales of album and single.
The reason why they chose to film the video here is lost in the mists of time, though the fact that Karn was of Mediterranean (Cypriot) descent may have something to do with it. The Maltese backdrops do complement the song's haunting style perfectly however. We wonder... did any diver eventually recover the video disc frisbeed into the sea at Ghajn Tuffieha?
Fans of '80s and Goth music will definitely be familiar with Peter Murphy and Mick Karn - but he may be familiar to younger readers from his cameo appearence in the 'Twilight Saga: Eclipse' film, where hr played 'The Cold One'.
With a face like that, he certainly puts a chill in our hearts.
