MALTA'S ONE AND ONLY ADULT PANTO - IN SUMMER!

By The Swag Team   -  August 08, 2014

Panto in Malta is a big deal: that annual Christmastime appointment for kids to get lost in a fantasy world and adults to enjoy a bit of naughty humour that should go over their offsprings’ heads. But comedian and radio star Steve Hili has decided to shake up the formula just a little, starting with the timing.

“Any adult who has gone to watch a pantos knows there is always a fair amount of subtle humour aimed at the adults too,” the Solid FM breakfast show jock told SWAG.

“You know, little jibes here and there that the kids don’t get but make the parents giggle. The grown-ups love this, but to their disappointment there are lines that cannot be crossed since panto is a kids’ show first and foremost… right?”

Steve answers his own rhetorical question.

“Not this time,” he grins. “Puss in Boots is an adult panto – with all the fun of the traditional show, but with all the nasty bits left in!”

Steve Hili’s version of Puss in Boots centres around the marvellous Puss, her master Little Joseph (a confused lad who dreams of making it big in musical theatre), and his mum, an outrageous Dame. They are on a frantic mission to make money by any means possible. Add a lustful and gambling King, an innocent little princess, a wicked baddie with a plan, the world's most famous sidekick and a script that celebrates silliness and bad taste, and you've got a fantastic summer show.

Puss in Boots turns the genre on its head – creating an anti-panto if you will… it’s not for kids, it’s naughty rather than nice, and it’s being held in summer because… well, if you’re going to toy with a format, why not go the whole hog?

Steve has written and directed the show that is being produced by Revolt – the team behind the fringe-style hits Romeo and Juliet 2 (and a Zombie), Sex Confessions of a Maltese Man, and Adam and Eve… and Kevin, as well as The Chicken Coop Stand-up Comedy Club.

Shows will be staged at the MADC Clubrooms on ONE WEEKEND ONLY - 29-30-31 August at 8pm. Tickets from www.madc.com.mt or 9944 9161.
