DISASTER AVOIDED AS PILOT CRASH LANDS CLASSIC WARPLANE
Knowing that thousands of Maltese are aviation enthusiasts, thronging the September air show, visiting the Aviation Museum, flying their model planes at Ta' Qali regularly and even visiting international air shows such as the annual Farnborough event, we SWAG boys decided to share this exciting clip that caught our attention recently. In it, the pilot of this ultra-rare Hawker Sea Fury 1940s fighter manages to crash land the malfunctioning aircraft in a remarkable display of calm and piloting ability. The aircraft type was a common sight in 1940s and 50s Malta, flown by Royal Navy units based here at the time. A number are reported to have crashed into the sea off the coast of Kalafrana and Hal Far in accidents, as reported on this interesting Maltese aviation related website.
