MODEL CITIZEN: LARA CASSAR DELIA
Lara has just turned 25 and is a student at MCAST, studying to become a Graphic Designer. “Art was always a very strong and prominent part of my life, so much so that from a very young age I’ve always sought to find artistic hobbies like painting. I guess that’s how I ended up in photomodeling,”she told SWAG.
“People might consider modelling as a hobby but for me it’s a passion and a way of expressing my inner thoughts and feelings through photography. I take every project very seriously and work hard to help achieve the concept the photographer has in mind. This job has given me the opportunity to meet a lot of different people, who are now also helping in me my graphic design studies,” she added.
Lara is an admirer of successful business women such as Beyoncé, Tyra Banks and Heidi Klum. She feels that, like her, they have strong personalities and that they started their careers at a very young age and made something out of absolutely nothing.
With regards to her modelling career, Lara has recently collaborated with photographer Clint Scerri Harkins on a shoot and one of the photographs taken was chosen as part of the Malta Fashion Awards photography exhibition held last May. “It was an honour and a dream come true because for me this shoot was very important as it symbolised a personal transition and change.”
Lara has appeared in music videos for artists such as Spanish star Juan Magan (see below). One of the videos she starred in has been watched by five million times. “My ambition is to work with other big companies and music producers as I really enjoy doing this work because it is a mixture of modeling and acting at the same time; although my biggest ambition is to become a good artist and graphic designer,”she declared.
Bubbly and full of energy, the model told us the story of one her most embarrassing moments on the runway. “I was modelling in an evening gown during a fashion show in Valletta in front of a lot of people. I had noticed that there was a hole on the catwalk and I was warning all the models to be wary of it. When it was my turn to walk on stage, I forgot about it and my heel got stuck in the hole,” she giggled, covering her face as she recalled the moment.
“I nearly flew off the stage and I still have no idea how I managed to keep my balance and not smash my face on the floor. The audience in the front rows started laughing but I had to continue. Since my shoe was stuck I had to remove the other shoe and continued barefoot like nothing had happened. At least the audience applauded…”
To conclude, SWAG asked her our trade mark questions about ideal men and ideal dates.
“My ideal man? That’s a very tricky question because I’m not wowed easily at all. Although looks are very important and my ideal man has to be handsome and athletic, most importantly he has to be intelligent and able to stimulate me mentally. I really enjoy a good conversation along with a good glass of wine. Also he has to appreciate my strong personality and my work and he has to have an artistic eye. And if he makes me laugh, he also gaina a lot of points.”
If you think you qualify, then prepare Lara a good bottle of wine and a platter of delicious nibbles as that is her kind of date, although she also enjoys a night out at a club having a laugh and dancing.
“I can be a very romantic person but I’m also always up for something more adventurous and exciting,” she concluded mysteriously.
