THE LUCKIEST MAN IN THE WORLD
Cranes collapsing is pretty much an everyday event in Malta, or so it seems. We exaggerate, of course, but it does happen so often that we hardly seem to bat an eyelid when news of another one toppling over is reported. It's one of those things, like exploding fireworks factories and safety on construction sites, that somehow always seems to escape long term professional regulation and inspection, despite a short-term uproar and tightening of saftey procedures in the weeks after a fatal event. Then, a couple of years pass and... boom.
But maybe it's not a case of 'Only in Malta'. Take a look at how lucky this Russian man was recently. See how he's merrily strolling the streets of a Russian city, wearing his red sweater, without a care in the world, when suddenly all hell breaks loose one step behind him. Who knows what might have happened if he had actually seen what was about to happen rather than have it happen inches from his back. Would he have had the strength of mind to run for his life or would he have been rooted to the spot in terror?
