CHEEKY WEDDING PHOTOS - THE LATEST INSTAGRAM FAD

Why do brides keep adding more and more items and things that must be done to their wedding day to-do list?

From SWAG’s experiences, we know that some of the latest additions are getting a ‘going away’ dress made as well as a wedding dress and having an after party as well as a reception. Some couples (read ‘brides’) are having a mini-film made, complete with CGI effects and action scenes instead of a simple, straightforward, wedding video.

What’s the world coming to?

What’s wrong with a good old-fashioned wedding in church followed by a reception in a nondescript hall? It used to be all so simple: shaking hands with everyone in line; disappearing to have the standard photos taken in a straight line; opening the dinner buffet - the nanniet and zijiet you've never met gorging themselves and filling their handbags before returning to their chairs in the corner; a first dance to something by Elvis or Frank Sinatra played by a bloke on a keyboard; the traditional alcohol-induced fight between distant relatives broken up with much difficulty by the lone policeman hired to stand around near the door until this very eventuality pops up; and concluding with a simple going away ritual with bride and groom on the guests’ shoulders? All finished at 1am, thank you and good night?

Oh no. Weddings have to be much more elaborate nowadays, and brides are always on the lookout for something new to add.

Take the latest trend sweeping Instagram: having the bridesmaids, and sometimes the bride herself, showing their arse in one of the wedding photos.

We have the pictures to prove it: they are not staged by actresses.

Will this trend take off in Malta? Will Sarah Young and the other wedding planners start suggesting it alongside established wedding traditions such as throwing the bouquet or tying tin cans to the groom’s car bumper? Has it happened here yet? We want to see the evidence!

Goodness me, what would Auntie Giannina say?
