Back in the day when technology wasn’t what it is now, Sci-Fi opened our eyes to the amazing world of technological possibilities. Luckily for us, technology seems to have caught up with imagination. Even though we’re not exactly close to warp drive or tele-transportation, there are some pretty exciting gadgets that are really on the brink of becoming reality.

  Space Tourism

Space Tourism malta, Space tourism is still in its infancy. With sub-orbital flights run by Virgin Galactic already available for $200,000 and trips to the International Space Station costing $20 million, it’ll be a while until travel into outer space is offered at a price that isn’t out of this world. But within the next few years, more companies will be developing space tourism options to suit different budgets. It will soon be feasible to spend a week in a space hotel, sipping on a cold Mojito, watching the sun setting over the earth or working on an ‘orbiting island’, as, for example, proposed by the Space Island Group .

  Portable Scanner

Portable Scanner malta, The portable scanner is a combined handheld scanner and printer. This concept allows users to directly scan and paste text or images without the need of any type of external printer. It only makes use of two buttons, one to copy and one to print. To print, all you need to do is aim the scanner at a sheet of paper and press the ‘print’ button. Not only will it be highly useful, it will also be very environmentally friendly.

Laser pens that can heal wounds

Laser pens that can heal wounds malta, This portable laser pen with the ability to cauterise wounds will revolutionise the medical world. Think of stitches, but without the needle, scarring and a greatly reduced chance of infection. Countless lives will be saved because once the pen is suitable for public use, people who are far away from medical help will be able to hygienically seal their wounds or tend to another person’s, quickly eliminating the risk of bleeding out. The first round of laser pens to be available for everyday use will be limited to medical centres and hospitals. The public will have to wait a teeny bit longer.

  iDropper Pen

iDropper Pen malta, The iDropper Pen is a connective stylus that will link most smart devices like phones, laptops and tablets. In the same way an eyedropper sucks in water and then releases it, the iDropper will do the same with data. It will allow users to quickly move information from one device to another at the press of a button. A button on the top of the stylus controls the intake and release of the information, whilst the data is displayed using icons along the stem of the pen.

  Smart Contact Lenses

Smart Contact Lenses malta, Google have come up with a smart contact lens concept that has a built-in camera and sensor, and is controlled by blinking. It aims to mainly help people suffering from visual impairment and diabetes. The lens’ camera will allow visually impaired users to indirectly see what’s in front of them. For example, if the lens ‘sees’ an obstruction ahead of the user, an alert could be sent to their phone. Diabetics will benefit from the sensors in the lens because glucose levels can be monitored through the user’s tears without them having to prick their finger or carry a bulky glucose monitor.

  Floating Phone

Floating Phone malta, The floating phone hovers in its charging cradle using magnets which hold the phone in mid-air as it charges. As the phone floats, its screen switches to a pre-selected one and is used as a display. When a call or message is received, the phone begins to spin and an indication icon is displayed in 3D using an ‘after-image effect’. As the phone charges at night, a dim light is emitted, letting users easily find it.

  Death Proof Cars

Death Proof Cars malta, With over a million fatalities worldwide a year resulting from traffic accidents, it’s about time an accident-proof car was on its way. In 2008, Volvo undertook the task of creating a death proof car by the year 2020 and since then, the Swedish company has upped the ante and now claims that crashing in general will be hard for anyone driving one of their cars. The technology will include a “low-speed collision avoidance system” called City Safety, a smart sensor that scans the road in front of the car, checking for obstacles and pre-prepares the brakes for stronger braking power. If the driver doesn’t brake in time, the enhanced braking system slows down the car for them. The other technology involved, a road train system, is based on the ability of trains to follow each other safely. Together, they’ll hopefully result in super safe, death-proof and crash-proof cars.
